Joy grew up in Kenya in the poor village of Pokot. Her father married four wives and he wasn’t very supportive. Joy depended mostly on her mother, until her mother passed away. Afterwards, Joy went to live with her grandmother, who depended on her uncle. They had a very hard life; clothes, shoes, and food were hard to come by. When Joy joined IHF, her life became much better.
Joy was originally enrolled in Chemolingot for primary school. In 2008, she was enrolled in IHF for class six. She was mainly supported by Chief Isaac because her family couldn’t support her education. Many of her brothers and sisters were unable to go to school.
She feels blessed to have grown up with other kids who shared with and constantly encouraged each other. Joy grew up with the mindset that everyone’s dream was valid, no matter their upbringing or background.
Now, Joy is working hard on a diploma in Human Resource Management. She believes that her diligence will carry her through her goals.
