Hema Hotchandani was born in the small of town Bhiwandi, in Maharashtra, India. She studied there until grae ten, and she achieved high marks in her subjects. Hema aspired to be a doctor from a young age, and for a good higher education, she traveled four hours every to day Thane, a nearby city.

Right before her medical entrance examination, Hema’s family found out that her mother’s kidneys had stopped functioning, and that she needed to be on dialysis thrice per week. The shock from this news affected Hema’s studies, and she did not do as well on her exam as she would have liked. Hema decided to study hard and the test again the following year, and that time she did very well, achieving rank 154 in her state.

Hema was recently admitted to a government college in Mumbai -- Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital. She is taking a five and a half year MBBS course, with the financial help of Sundar Sewak Sabha. She is mainly studying anatomy, biochemistry, and physiology. Hema’s favorite subject of the three is anatomy, as it takes mainly takes place in the dissection hall, where they spend time actually dissecting and learning.

After completing her MBBS, Hema wants to do her post graduation, and eventually become an accomplished surgeon.
